Mario and Luigi are supposed to be diminutive little weirdos. They're both shorter than the princess.
Brandon Routh is a 6'2" male model who played Superman. Luigi is a skinny midget with a big nose and weak chin.

actually Luigi was always tall and slender... Mario was the one who was short and pudgy
Luigi's a taller midget than Mario but they're both short. Their girlfriends tower over them.

What would you think of Paul Giamatti as Mario?
Paul Giamatti too tall at 5'9". In order to be faithful to the physicality of the video game characters, they'd have to be played by very short men.
Danny DeVito would have been good as the fatter, New York-accented version of Mario from the early days. Or Wario.
Paul Giamatti looks ALOT shorter than 5'9
mostly when u see an actors height on imdb its usually exaggerated... like if u see an actors height, subtract like 2 or 3 inches off of that to get their ACTUAL heights... for example imdb lists Shia Leboufs height as 5'10 and I dont believe for a minute hes really 5'10...
but having said that, I definitely DONT think Mario and Luigi should b played by dwarves
