Dumb question about the scope

I've done a little wiki- search on reflector sights, the type the Berenguer character uses. I get (kind of - optic science isn't my strong suit) what's going on with the red dot in the middle. Does anyone know what's the purpose of the flashing red dots on the bottom of the sight?

Berenger's scope didn't have the red dot in the middle - that was Zane's/Miller's. As for the red dot, you have to take that with a grain of salt - that scope reticle wouldn't be used by a sniper worth his salt.

I'm not sure about the flashing red dot at the bottom though - I didn't notice that. Are you sure it wasn't on the range-finder? I'll have to re-watch it and see if I can figure out what the deal on that is.

Billy Zane (Miller) had the scope with the little red blinking Christmas lights near the bottom of the viewfinder, which is Hollywood ridiculousness. I assume it was to contrast his flashy style and dependence on high-tech gimmicks like the Gucci camouflage and expensive shooting glasses, vs Berenger's no-nonsense street smart approach.
