Compared to Basic Instinct

I remember when this first came out. They were saying that this makes Basic Instinct look like Play School or something like that (Referring to the sex) This was tame compared to BI in my opinion but I really liked both films alot.

I wasn't comparing them. When Sliver came out it was compared to Basic Instinct. I imagine because both had Sharon Stone in and were similar styles of films where you were left guessing who the murderer was.

I guess when it's being compared to "Basic Instinct"; it only means by it's the two film's sexual premise.

But both movies seem to have scene after scene of erotically composed shots.

Personally I think Stone had more chemistry with William Baldwin in this movie than she did with Michael Douglas in BASIC INSTINCT. To me SLIVER was even sexier than BASIC INSTINCT. Whenever I revisit the film, I still find that scene where a butt-naked Baldwin sneaks up on Stone and takes her against a pillar a little surprising for a mainstream movie.

I conquor on that. Especially about Sharon having "more" chemistry in the Sliver film with William Baldwin then she did with Michael Douglas in Basic Instinct. I also agree on it's sex-appeal; and that it has more erotic appeal then BI imo.

Ironically, Stone and Baldwin reputedly took a strong dislike towards one another. (Stone apparently preferred the company of Tom Berenger, who she describe in one interview as 'a real pro' and praised as 'a regular guy' who also happened to be a successful screen actor; the implication is that she didn't find Baldwin to be 'a regular guy', whatever that may be.)

Well, Basic Instinct was a tongue in cheek genre film, and the sex scenes were meant to be entertaining in an over-the-top way. Also, more attention was paid to the story. This is more of a straight-up softcore thriller, with the plot pretty much irrelevant and the sex being the main point, and the sex scenes staged in a more standard fashion for titillation. Although there may be more sex scenes in Basic Instinct. Here, there's only two sex scenes with Sharon Stone, and (spoiler) Zeke's sex with Vida and Naomi.
