Can anyone tell me what happened during that original end sequence with the volcano? Is there a script available? I'm really curious as to find out how that movie would wind up there and how long they spent. I'm having a hell of a time picturing it too. I mean, I know that the Baldwin character liked volcanoes a lot, but...how did it wind up there? Was his secret base supposedly in the volcano?
shareI used to own a copy of the second draft of Eszterhas's screenplay, which included the volcano ending. If you are interested in reading it you can find it on some online script sites for purchase. I think I got mine from www.scriptcity.net. From what I can remember, it turns out that Zeke was the killer, and Carly discovered this, but decided to stay with him anyway because she loved him (he was the killer in the original novel). He rented a helicopter and they were flying over some volcanoes when she told him that she knew he was the murderer. It was a rather ambiguous ending, but I didn't think it was all that good. I didn't like the ending in the film for that matter, but I also didn't like the ending in Levin's novel. In Eszterhas's autobiography ''Hollywood Animal'' he also stated that he was displeased with the final film.
