Remember, Zeke likes to play games with people who like to play games and Carly proves herself a worthy playmate during their second date at the restaurant.
Showing Carly his monitor room sanctuary seemed like a big step - as if he has been searching for the right someone to join him and share in his godlike power.
Once Zeke is revealed to be a deceptive master manipulator at the finale, however, the games are over. Carly wants a real relationship, but Zeke's lies to her throughout make that impossible, and so she strips him of his power as punishment.
That being said, it takes a lot to get past the film's horrendous reputation. I hope more people can admire it for the little things in time.
