I hope no one gets annoyed by this post. This movie is one of my favorites and I just finished watching it tonight on TV. The movie was made in 1992 (released in 1993), and I did notice the 90s feel the movie had (i.e. the computers, the lack of cell phones etc).

I'm wondering if a movie like this could be made nowadays or could the time period be changed to anytime after 2000. How would things like the Internet, online dating, Facebook, cellphones etc. affect a movie such as this. In other words, what would Sleepless In Seattle be if it were filmed in 2011-2012 rather than the early 1990s.

Annie would've found his Facebook, and stalked, er, I mean, followed him that way, instead of actually traveling to Seattle.

Also, she would have checked to see if he had a Myspace, Twitter, Flickr, and other network sharing sites.

I was just thinking about this today after catching it on TV again last night. This story would be completely undoable nowadays. For one thing, no one would pay attention to any other people they were actually with, because they'd be on their damn cell phones ALL. THE. TIME.

To me, that's a big part of what makes SiS romantic -- the characters really pay attention to the people they're with.
