Jonah should have ended up on a milkcarton

This little dumbass runs away to New York to meet a stranger he knew nothing about. Instead of this incredibly stupid and contrived stunt working, a more realistic chain of events should have seen the kid get kidnapped and is never seen again.

It the movie were realistic Jonah would end up a homeless junkie homosexual working the streets.

" The rug really tied the room together, did it not? "

If the movie were realistic, Sam would have called the NYPD and told them his son was on his own in New York and might be at the Empire State Building--and he would have done it BEFORE he ever left Seattle. The cops would have found Jonah and held him at the nearest police station until Sam arrived to claim him.

You can't expect a child to have the comprehension of the consequences of his actions as you would an adult. When Sam finds him, he did scold him. He asks him what would have happened if he wouldn't have been able to get to him. I would think Jonah learned his lesson here and probably wouldn't have done something like that again. He and his friend expected everything to work out just like most children. They didn't consider how he'd get home if it didn't work out.

I guess when this movie was made there wasn't this pedophile hysteria going on. It's not a big deal. I don't think 8 year olds should travel by their own like that either, but people need to learn to teach their kids to do things on their own. He wasn't walking around alone in some rough Brooklyn neighbourhood. He was constantly in a pretty safe surrounding. Flights, taxi, tourist place. I used to go to the grocery store on my own when I was 8 to shop for my family. If you wanna get paranoid about it there were bigger chances of me getting kidnapped than Jonah in central Manhattan. But I don't live in the States, our culture of fear isn't quite as extreme.

If you want "realism", don't look for it in romantic comedies.
