The New York skyline is messed up

Every time they showed the Empire State Building and panned around, there were two very distinct and unique landmarks missing-the world trade centers. I've never been to NY, but it seems to me that they would have shown up in those pans. Am I wrong, were they just set farther back, or did someone actually take them out of all panned shots??

I know I watched this movie several times when it first came out but I don't remember if they were in those earlier viewings so I can't compare. Somebody help me out here?

I didn't see them either and I kinda was looking for them. Not sure if they were removed or never filmed. After all, the Empire State Building was the main star building and showing the other tall buildings might distract from its purpose in the actual plot.

Either way, I don't find the WTC presence even needed for the plot, and thus, to me anyway, a non issue.

I just now watched the movie again after not seeing it in a while and I thought I saw the world trade centers at least in one shot. It is when Tom flies to New York after his son and it shows the bridge but it probaby is not them because they look so far away from the Empire State Building. If i pause it there are two towers really close together on the left side of the screen but the Empire State Building is way over to the far right. They don't even look tall enough to be the trade centers.

Of course on the DVD the picture that shows on the menu has them in the background of Meg Ryan's picture and in that shot they are close to the Empire State building.

In the cemetary scene at the beginning I see the Empire State Building and really close to it are two tall towers close together. I thought that was them too, although there is another building to the left of them that is even taller unless it just looks taller because it is closer in the foreground than the two towers are. However, this sort of matches the photo and distance of the menu picture.

I was also curious about something. Does anyone know where Meg & Bill were having dinner where they saw the view of the Empire State building? I ate at Windows on The World at the World Trade Center in 1997 and I don't remember seeing the Empire State Building but I did see the Statue of Liberty. That restaurant they were sitting in reminded me of how it kind of looked so I kept thinking, "Are they in Windows on the World?" Also when Meg runs into the bottom of the Empire State building that area reminded me of the lobby of the World Trade Center. Ive never been in the Empire State Building so I did not know if it looked just very similar in the lobby area.

The scene in the beginning is in Chicago not New York.

It's quite possible they were eating at a restaurant in the Chrysler Building.

Rockefellar Center. Been there.

You didn't pay close enough attention. The WTC was shown immediately after Sam arrives in NYC looking for Jonah and he pushes his way into a cab. The WTC is shown for approximately 10 seconds.

I took a screen grab for you:
