An engagement isn't a marriage.

Lots of folks sympathize with Walter and think Annie is the cheating "bad guy." As painful as it might be to the one who's "all-in" in the relationship, if at any point during an engagement a fiancé has serious doubts or meets someone else they love more, it's better for them to explore the issue and to break the engagement (and unfortunately a heart too) if necessary BEFORE getting married. Don't pretend and have an "it's too late" attitude just because you've received or given a ring and the invitations have been sent and you don't want to cause hurt or embarrassment. As unpleasant as those things are, that kind of thinking produces an even worse outcome - vows that are lies, a bad marriage, a bitter divorce, and wasted time. Walter fans can at least be glad he dodged a bullet. He deserves someone who really wants him. Personally, I'm glad Annie followed her gut because it turned out she was right to do so.
