The one thing that bugs me...

This is a good feel good movie, I like watching it when I find it on tv. I was watching it last night and I was annoyed by Rita's mom. I don't understand why she wouldn't let Rita be in a SCHOOL choir. I mean, when I was in school, I could take music class/choir and it was part of the curriculum, and I could get real school credit. It's not like she was in some other choir outside of school. Ya know? It really bugs me. Maybe she didn't want Rita to be in the choir because she didn't want Rita's head getting big, thinking that she could do it in as a living? I dunno, it doesn't make sense.

Dear Nyxxie:

I know what you mean by the mother in the movie of "Sister In Act 2" being mean to her daughter and not wanting her to be in the school choir. My grandmother was the same way. So I know how the girl felt.

And the reason I say my grandmother is that my mother died when I was 9 years old and she rasied me.

I was in the 5th grade and I was singing solo for the high school choir. And the first night I had to sing the solo I was scared to death. And here in the state of Kansas they have what they call state singing contest's and every time I went and patiscapted (I hope I spelt that right if I didn't please forgive me) we came home in first place.

And from my understanding that haven't came in first place since I have graduated from high school. I even had a chance to go to Nashville, Tennessee to make recordings and my Grandmother wouldn't even let me do that.So you Nyxxie I do know where that girl is coming from in the movie.

I've been in a choir myself. It was hard because not only you get to concentrate on your studies but also you have to attend those practices everyday especially when the recitals are near. It can be asacrife to your studies. Many parents are more concerned in their children's studies than music. But most parents also want their children to be musically inclined. I guess Rita's mom their just wants a better future for her daughter because they don't really have a good lifestyle. :)

What about getting a degree in music education and teaching or some such thing? There are other "real" careers involving music other than just being a performer. College scholarships are even available, so I really don't understand the mother's attitude.
