Similarities between this and Bell's of St. Mary's

Has anybody noticed the similarities between this film and the Bell's of St. Mary's?

Bing Crosby plays Father O'Malley trying to straighten out a group of school children in a school that he and the nuns are trying to prevent being closed down. He uses music to bring the kids into line and save the school. Doesn't this sound like a similar to a certain well loved sister act 2. There is also a reference in sister act 2 when maggie smith mentions being badly behaved as a child for bishop O'Malley. Also the use of music by bing crosby changes the opinion and outlook of the sister played by ingrid bergman, similar to the relationship between whoopi goldberg and maggie smith in sister act 1.

Does any body else notice any other similiarities? It would be good to know that i'm not imagining it.

This has been done in aonther 80s movie as well, but there was a class that was supposed to get good mathgrades. Cant recall what its name was tho, but its quite famous.
