married?

i was watching sister act 2 today and i noticed for the first time that mother superior was wearing a wedding ring. it's toward the end of the movie where she's sitting in the audience and the father dude sits beside her, she raises her left hand and light reflects off a ring. is this a mistake or are nun's allowed to be married?!

reply

No it's not a mistake. All nuns marry Christ hence the "Brides of Christ" reference to them in real life :) All monks are brothers of Christ and so on.

Exactly. I've had nuns as teachers (have one now in fact) and they all wear a gold ring on their wedding finger to show that they are 'brides of christ'

"Peace! I will stop your mouth."

I believe nuns wear wedding rings as a symbol that they are married to Jesus. I think, I dont know for sure

If you saw the movie Valerie Bertinelli made about becoming a nun or most of the nun movies made in the 40's and 50's most show a wedding ceremony wherein the postulants are in wedding gowns and veils during the taking of their final vows.I am thinking of "This House of Brede" and "Nun's Story."
