Since Delores is now wealthy, can't she provide the $2,000?

Deloris is now a successful and wealthy singer with her own nightclub show in Las Vegas. She's been featured on the cover of numerous magazines. She's a recording star.
So WHY did she and the other nuns get so worried over having to raise $2,000 for the competition? Deloris could have had the money wired to her from Vegas....or she could have gone to the bank and withdrawn it herself!
Instead, she and the other nuns plead with the community to donate $2,000. They even pass a basket for donations.

I kinda thought about that as well, but Delores made a mention that the community needed to be involved, so maybe it was part of trying to save the school. Or she's cheap. ;)

Well it's a cliche but if you give a man a fish you feed them for a day(guess it's a real big fish) teach him to fish and you won't have to keep giving him fish. Giving them the money would be nice, but it would be a lot like doing your kids homework for them.

Fantastic original post! I love stuff like this.

Good point by the OP maybe the makers of the movie forgot that Delores became popular and had money. But I think overall Delores and the nuns wanted to community to become involved and the kids to work for things.

Great question! But it's quite simple really, they needed a good montage. And they got one!!!

True story? I couldn't swear to every detail but it's certinally true it is a stroy.

Nuns take a vow of poverty, If she would have pulled out 2,000 bucks on the spot the jig would have been up, and she would have been fired. Or at least that's how I saw it.

I think you're right, AJOAndre. If Dolores would have just given the money, her cover would have definitely been blown.

...And anonymous donations absolutely do not exist either...

When you're 17 a cow can seem dangerous and forbidden...am I alone here?

For starters, yes the community needed to get involved, plus she was there not as Deloris (who is rich) but as Sister Mary Clarence (who has taken a vow of poverty in that role). If she'd donated the money herself questions would've been asked and the secret would no longer have been a secret.

she was a lounge singer not a pop star

Lounge stars make anywhere from 2500 to 4800 dollars a month which is anywhere from 30,000 to 57,600 dollars a year hardly rich

Along with the vow of poverty, her assets could have been frozen due to her ex boyfriend/husband mobster's trial. She could have had the money but no access to it.

Good question & it's been answered.
1. She's a "nun". Nuns don't have that kind of money.
2. She could have secretly donated, but what about next year, how would they get the money then?
3. She gets the community involved to remind everyone that those kids are they're kids and by donating a little, they're helping a lot. It sets a precedence for next year when they go back to the competition.
4. She may be better off, but I don't know about wealthy.

With the fact that the quartet got in touch with her, they had to hide her identity here again, which meant that if she dished out that money her cover would be blown, so to make sure that didn't happen they had to do a fund raiser for the school and set up several areas like they did when they were working on the church roof in the first movie.

Secondly, nuns have taken a vow of poverty and that means living off of limited money and doing things for free and she was trying to behave like a real nun, but her memory of it made it easier to be upfront with the kids because she was like them and understood them in a way nobody else did.

Also if she had been upfront in giving them the money for that trip, it would have gotten the five of them in trouble with the principle and that leach of administrator and they would have known automatically that she wasn't a nun.
