I loved the movie, but one thing bugs me. Andie McDowell's son is hit by the car while walking to school, but all the other kids in the movie, including Frances McDormand's son, are shown sitting at home watching TV, playing, etc. on the same day. I guess it could be summer and her son is in summer school, but it seemed more like something that wasn't noticed by the screenwriters. Certainly nothing worth getting worked up over or anything, but it kind of distracted me just a little.

good observation. I would assume that it is late spring early summer and because he came from a wealthier family, he attends a private school. The other kids are out of school because Public schools and private schools run on different schedules, sometimes their summer vacations begins weeks apart.
