187 min ???
it's more than 3 hours..

thank you for the math lesson
shareStick to 80 minute Sandler comedies if you can't handle this.
shareThe 187 minutes vary greatly from person to person. I had no problem watching this movie in one sitting, while others I've recommended the film to could not bear the film's pacing and what seems to them like the most anti-climatic movie ever... which I couldn't quite deny, although I love the film.
shareYes, well stated.
shareAnti-climactic? I couldn't imagine that, I thought the film was very suspenseful and it seemed to have some form of climax every fifteen minutes especially in the second half.

I just watched the movie for the first time. I enjoyed every bit of it and wouldn't want it cut down, yet I really could feel that it was three hours.
I will definately be watching it again, but I'll have to wait a while.
Yeah, it is maaajorly long, and as I don't think it's the most riveting film ever, plus the book is tons better, I tend to watch it in 2/3 parts. Cause I have to keep watching it for revision :D

No no no!! Stop slashing things!!
It's the "shortest" 3 hour film I've ever seen.
shareI saw Short Cuts yesterday and loved it!! The 3+ hours fly by quickly.

This is definitely on my list of quick 3-hour movies. This, Amadeus, JFK, The Great Escape, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Le Cercle Rouge, Seven Samurai, Giant, Gone With The Wind, all fly by. Not a big La Dolce Vita fan though.
What's the spanish for drunken bum?
I saw it a while ago and there were plenty of times where I nearly fell asleep, but I was always interested in what was going on and I never wanted to shut it off.
shareI'm in the "it went incredibly fast for a three hour movie" camp. But, taking into consideration that it's based on 9 short stories and a poem, I can only say I'm surprised it didn't run longer. I couldn't find any cutable material, or think of any way to make it shorter. Neither, apprently, could Robert Altman.
shareWhen a movie is never dull or boring, who really cares how long it is?

As a cinema lover, I wasn't really concerned about the time this was going to take when I saw it on TV (I already knew it'd be this long :P). But as I had never seen Altman's movies before and had no idea of how original they are I was all the time thinking "this is getting boring/dull, when will something important happen?". It was only then after reading about the movie that I've reached the conclusion I spent most of my time trying to model the movie in the shape of those I usually watch, rather than enjoying a different approach of making cinema. It's a movie that I don't recommend to anyone if they're not up-to-date with how Altman's movies are supposed to be. And it definitly needs a 2nd to 100th watch again because it has such a rich texture that's impossible to catch on it's whole sense with just watching the movie once.

It seemed to fly by.

Like Harry Potter films and The Godfather, the story is so intriguing you don't even notice the running time. As for Gone With the Wind and Gandhi, that's another story!
