Tom Waits and Lily Tomlin

Make a match that is heaven for moviegoers. At least, it was for me. It's just a better Hollywood, in my mind, when I can imagine a couple like that in a trailer park in the valley.

I honestly believe those two to be the most genuine and (unexpectedly!) endearing couple I've ever seen on the big screen.

And I'm not just saying this because I'm hopelessly in love with Lily Tomlin... In fact, it was WAITS' impressive acting chops that sealed the deal for me.

They're both great - and they have both played good couples in other movies (i.e. lily tomlin with alan alda in flirting with disaster). but this, man, it takes the cake.

Thanks for the response... i thought i was the only one out there who cared. There was a lot of care and attention from altman, set designers, actors, etc. - infusing that basic couple with such detail and life.

I agree too, the most genuinely likeable couple in the movies, flawed just like the rest of us.

They are both fantastic in their own right(s), and as everybody here agrees, were truly special together.

I agree and I thought Tom Waits was fantastic. I've always loved Lily Tomlin. I'd love to next door to them and get drunk.
