Why?
Sorry, I feel kind of dumb asking, but I didn't quite get why Zoe killed herself. I know she was very upset over Casey's death and probably frustrated over her mother's indifferent reaction to it, but still...

shareI think going to the bar, and finding out that none of her mother's long-time co-workers even knew she existed... may have just been the last straw. From her point of view, it probably proved that she was completely worthless in her mother's eyes. And for a person suffering from depression, that could be enough...
shareYes, I guess you are right... Thank you!
shareThere doesn't need to be any reasone for a person to suffer from depression. It's an illness that can affect anyone. It's like saying how can Patrick Swayze have cancer when he's so rich and famous.
I think in this case the detatchment she felt from her mother and Caseys death were triggers for deep rooted emotional issues.
The movie implies that her mother was totally self-absorbed and that Zoe spent her whole life unloved.
shareThe better question is why this thing was even made. Anyone who liked this movie is a muppet. There is no meaning to any of it. it was all so unbelievable anyway, that i was ready to jump the car with Zoe....WTF was up with fishermen......who would do that....really.......the Writer should be beaten with that huuugggeee script.
share"Anyone who liked this movie is a muppet." Now, that's the maturity and respect for others' opinions needed for an intelligent discussion.
On an unrelated note, I believe you are talking about a different movie.
I am not a muppet I´m a human being and I demand some respect goddamnit!
"facts are stupid things" - Ronald Reagan
bit late this, sorry, but I've only just watched the film.
I think Zoe is totally appalled at her mother's indifference to the child's death. And her mother has already spoken without grief of her father's death. Zoe's confirmed in her belief that humanity is hell, self obsessed, cares nothing for anyone other than themselves.
She can only find passion and life affirmity in her music. And ultimately it is not enough.
Especially since the mob, i.e. several of the cast, talk throughout her concert and show their disrespect for the only thing that makes her life worth living.
P.S.
did anyone else think that this part was being played by Darryl Hannah? such a likeness ....

I thought it Darryl Hannah as well.
