Slightly disturbing

Why are these parents letting their child hang around with drug addicts from the park? And vice versa why do these men want to hang around with a 7 year old boy?

A bit of match practise with your dad leaning over your shoulder is fair enough, the boy needs to learn his trade somewhere after all. But at one point they're just sat on a bench whilst Vinnie sips I his drink chatting about what school he goes to. Oh yeah, and why not just come along to his national championships while you're at it mate (which are all the way in Chicago may I add, not exactly a short journey to go cheer on your 7 year old little buddie).

And I've never been to the states so I don't for sure know what drug dealers get up to in your country. But over in England, I can assure you I've never seen a group of thugs spend morning, noon and night gripped in games of speed chess. In fact, our drug dealers probably can't even spell chess so I'm guessing the US equivalents can't be much different.

When you are in new york next head to washington square and you will see speed chess games going on all the time. Some are bankers and some are homeless and some are playing for drug money.

You want to talk about "slightly disturbing"? How about when Josh's father, who I do not like and think is a total jerk, made a very ugly scene and brutally chewed out that sweet young school teacher for the unforgivable insult of saying "chess thing". He was way out of line and had I been there I would have slugged him.

reply

Hmm, I thought the teacher was out of line, she was totally condescending.

reply

The teacher is one of those persons who think they're always right and when they see an exceptional person they just have to ruin them and make them average and mediocre.

reply

She was demeaning towards Josh's exceptional gift at playing chess, calling it a "chess thing". The father was just sticking up for his son. I'd call that a good father, not a jerk.

reply

Wow, talk about missing the point of a scene. That scene was to show how much his father has changed. He didn't appreciate chess at all in the beginning nor his son's gift. That scene shows how much he realizes how gifted his son truly is.
