Is it wrong to like this movie?

I mean, I know this film revolves around some super dark and touchy subject matter...but I can't deny that it's a really well directed film. The entire atmosphere of the movie was just so convincing and intense. At times, I basically felt like I was watching a real part of history. It's one of those films that sorta takes you back in time and gives you a feeling of what it was like in Nazi Germany. Definitely an unforgettable movie experience. It's one of those movies that stays with you. Once you've seen it...you never forget.

Can anyone else relate?

Why on earth would it be wrong to like it? It's not as if you've confessed to laughing when the engineer gets shot.

Yes, it does have a documentary-like feel in places (hand-held camera helps), is occasionally almost unbearably intense but overall is a superbly crafted & brilliantly acted film. I think it would have been more powerful without the sentiment & syrupy music.

If you want to have an even better feel of what it was like either in Poland or Germany in those terrible times, you can't beat actual footage. You should watch the final episodes of The World at War (1973):

...or, similarly disturbing & grim:

3 of the best documentaries ever on this subject matter, & neither is for the faint of heart. The 2 Laurence Rees docs above are made even better by the fabulous narration of Samuel West.

Nothing to be ashamed about, it's a well made movie. The acting, particularly from Finnes, was marvelous.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking this film. I have seen SL several times that I have to admit that I love this film. It was VERY well made and acted...and with such realism. Your comments are well said and so true.

My favorite scene: the women workers are sent to Auschwitz by mistake and are sent to the showers, believing they are going to be gassed. It's an absolutely horrible and disturbing scene. It is my favorite scene in the film because EVERY TIME I see this scene, it is hard for me to remember that, in reality, these women are actresses performing. They all performed this scene with so much disturbing intensity and realism.

In my opinion, Schindler's List is one of the greatest films ever made...if not THE greatest.

In terms of movies there are different types of liking. You can like a movie because it's funny or fun or you can like it because it's powerful, gripping or touching.

This is the first time I hear it is wrong to like Schindler's List! Why should it be? It's a masterpiece, probably the best film of the 90's.

It would be slightly more disconcerting if you found it boring or fell asleep to it, like Seinfeld.

I like this film and despite it's grim subject matter, it is very rewatchable unlike other gritty well made dark films that don't have that rewatch value like Passion of the Christ. But that depends also on the level of violence shown on film.

The scene with Hitler masturbating was excellent.

reply

No it’s not wrong to like the movie. You can like a film but at the same time be disgusted by the actions of some of the characters.

reply

Yes, it's wrong to like it! It shows that you worship Hitler! You will be turned into a Nazi!
