I like soccer but I will never understand the rest of the world's complete obsession with this sport.
It's more fun to play than it is to watch (so is golf). The only time I watch it is during the world cup, and it's only to root for my country. With no dog in the fight, it's torture for me to watch. My son played college hockey, and I enjoyed those games because he played the sport. Otherwise, I'd rather watch paint dry instead of watching soccer or hockey. I can however watch any hoop, baseball, or American football game just for the enjoyment of the sport, and enjoy the four golf majors and the Ryder cup.
I played baseball, football, and soccer in grammar and high school (didn't care for basketball, but I'm a big fan of college hoops now). The reason soccer (and ice hockey) is frustrating for sports fans who are familiar with other sports is that there is no real precision in ball handling. There is no stat for turnovers because the ball is turned over sometimes 5 times in 10 seconds. There are some very athletic movements to be sure, but mostly it's the ball (or puck) going back from one team to another.
In countries where it's the only sport, it's loved by the fans, more for the team/regional rooting aspect of it more than the actual beauty of the game.
It is bad to drink Jobus rum. Very bad.
