this movie doesn't make sense

i was buying it until the last act, what the hell happened? the Olin character, that crazy woman, cuts off her own arm, as if that's all they use to identify a body? ever heard of dental records? and they didn't think it was strange that the arm was sawed off? ok, so she's free (after kicking out a windshield and running away WITH a bullet hole in her leg) then all of a sudden the police have her again? she's supposed to be DEAD! The whole thing falls apart, especially believing a guy in handcuffs could take a gun out of a guy's pant leg and not be stopped.

what a stupid movie!

You are right, there is plenty of illogical stuff in this movie...but Mona didn't just randomly cut her arm off. Jack shot her in the ARM not the LEG.

He gets to go free because all the cops that were there were his friends and they realised how bad mona was, so they said that he was defending them and he got a medal for it, that makes alot of sense!
This movie was great, although I must admit I thought the arm thing was a bit much!

He got to go free because Mona was no longer alive to testify....he was.

I totally agree. I thought I was watching this great movie until about halfway through, and then absolutely nothing made sense. Also, there's the whole "May 1st, December 1st" deal (as mentioned in the "Microphones and month" thread). And here's something not mentioned yet: What was up with replacing the 3rd-person voiceover with the 1st-person voiceover all of a sudden? I understand that the diner owner was his new Witness-Protection identity, but I think the voiceover switch was something they should have avoided until that final scene.

Her arm was partially severed by Jack when he shot her. It wasn't viable. He probably hit the brachial artery. She wasn't shot in the leg.

She sawed off the dead girlfriend's arm and put hers in its place. Fire would obscure some of the surgical evidence.
