Has all the elements of a good movie...

...but somehow manages to be mediocre. It almost came togethar, but there was enough off to ruin it. The narration got gratingly awful at times, and I think that some of the characters could have been given a bit more attitude/intensity. The pacing might also have been a bit slow in that respect. I also think that the movie presented jack in alot better light than it should have.

Any thoughts?

Well, it *is* his perspective, isn't it?

Ya know, I do love this film - Gary is amazing as always, the plot is great, it makes its audience think about things, there are great lines, lots of drama and in-depth characters.........BUT, to a degree, I agree with the fact that whilst all the ingredients were there, there was a small something missing that could have made this a blockbuster.....I'm kinda blaming the director for this, as Oldman, Olin and lots of the wonderful supporting cast were all brill.

I never bought Medak had any personal stock in the movie. Its well-crafted, but its feels... I don't know... workmanlike.

Its one of those films you don't understand how it could not be great, but you can't bring yourself to rate it higher than average, even if there are elements in there which are well-above (Oldman's performance for starter).
