sshhhhh...! this is america's best kept secret film ever!

with dark as you like Medak, a young nubile Juliette Lewis, "nutbag in his prime" Oldman, and dangerously alluring Lena Olin, a score from Mark Isham.... how can this fail?

It doesn't, and stands as a classic among piles and piles of wannabe Tarantinos et al.

Sheer class 10/10

keep it to yourself...!

reply

I've seen lots of movies that were classics that were less entertaining then this....

I fell before I got to the finish.
What did the gym teacher say?
She said I fell right.

reply

That's part of the problem. It wasn't dry enough to be a 'classic'.

After I saw this in the theater years ago, it took me several minutes to compose myself, lift my jaw off the floor and process what I had just seen. Lena Olin covered in blood and performing impossible feats of escape, Gary Oldman on full throttle...what more could you want. But a secret it does remain. Ask the average movie goer if they've heard of it and you will receive a blank stare.

I remember seeing this for the first time in Theatres.
The memory will last me a lifetime.
I went with a bunch of friends I worked with in Vons Market.

We saw it at The Galaxy in Hollywood and we snuck back in for the next showing 20 minutes later.

I fell deeply in love with LENA OLIN.
She stole me from Sigourny Weaver.
I have a crush on her to this day.
I loved her in ALIAS.

She'll always be my SEXY OLDER WOMAN.

BTW:
I'm NOT gonna keep it a secret,
I'm telling everyone.

everyone?

"E-E-E-E-VRY-Y-Y-Y-ONE!!!!!!!!"
Gary Oldman was better in the THE PROFESSIONAL.

This is his #2 Best Performance, to me.

Thanks guys for listening.
I had to vent about my sick twisted fascination for LENA OLIN.
Noboby knows about it.
The girls will think I'm weird.

I feel a lot better now.

reply

you fell in love with lena olin!?
what!? she had one arm and was a psyco bitch! yes she is a amazing actor but the character she played was crazy

i fell in love with the relationship between Jack and Natalie, especially at the wery end with the "Romeo Is Dreaming" song preformed perfectly by mark isham

no, similar atmospheres can only be found in blade runner (and city on fire with chow yun if i remember correctly)

i think this film wasnt meant to be a popular blockbuster, too few would like it. they would all crave a happy ending or more action

reply

That scene where she is playing "Dice" wearing a Red Dress is the sexiest vision in the Movie.

I also like the part when she has her legs over Gary Oldmam's face which causes the crash, where she makes her getaway.

I love this crazy Bitch entirely.

A Sexy, Russian, Hitman, Evil Bitch.

I love "Crazy".

shhhhhhhh. yeah, this one definitely is flying below the radar. it's a classic in my book anyway.

reply

New York City has never looked better either.

reply

Why would you want to keep it hidden? I dont get that. Its like people being pissed off when their favorite indie band hits it big.

Tell everyone to go rent it. Or steal it or whatever. And everyone wanted Olin in their bed, or trunk, or wherever lol.

reply

I wish it had gotten more accolades, as I haven't seen Oldman and Olin as intense as this since. That was some white hot chemistry and non stop fun.

reply

I like the fact that it missed many people and it was considered more of an independant than mainstream.

Whenever I meet and talk to people about good cop thrillers and this movie comes up; 7 out of ten say they haven't seen it. When they do see it, they really enjoy it.

One of the best 90's flicks.

reply

It was an Indy, it was put out by PolyGram and Gramercy, both independent studios that no longer exist.

L: I'm talking about a little place called Aspen
H: I don't know Lloyd, the french are a ssholes

I wish the secret was kept from me then. I hated it. I watched it because of Gary Oldman and Michael Wincott, and they were the only things about this movie that wasn't absolutely maddening. Leno Olin? Every second she was on screen I wanted to look away. She is not just unattractive, she is repulsive. Her voice makes me cringe, and she wouldn't even be that attractive if she had a voice that didn't sound like a three hundred pound man. Hated this movie. It's just another reminder that Gary Oldman should have fired his agent a long time ago.

Oh, take a gander the bigger they are the harder they fall.

reply

Lena Olin was an animal. I really didn't care for the rest of it, but her performance was interesting

reply

She was like a feral animal! You didn't think Oldman did a bang up job on this too? Just asking because I thought the dynamic between the two of them kept us whispering "oh my god" throughout;)

She scared you...
A woman like that is sexy scary ;-)

reply

I agree 100 per cent with the original poster.
A great movie with a stylish director, great Oldman
performance, and a fantastic Mark Isham score.
I saw this in the theatre.....twice, a week later.
On the DVD case it says it was one of the best un-produced
scripts in Hollywood. That was untill Tim Bevan and Eric
Fellner stepped in. Yeah Hillary Henken had a great screenplay.
Good times.

Seen this movie many many times and will continue to watch it over again.

Love Oldman and love Olin!

Kudos to those who mentioned Isham. His haunting score adds so much to the movie.

I'm watching Oldman do an interview on youtube right now. Once you see him talk on interviews you can get more of an appreciation of how much he transforms himself for his roles.

reply

Oldman is a freight train but Olin matches him blow for blow in this and I think that is what makes their pairing so fun to watch. Agreed about those who made a point to mention Isham and the score. The score can make or break a film.

reply

For those Isham fans out there, another amazing Isham score to another amazing film, is his score to "Short Cuts," which came out only a little later (I think?) than this one. (I saw them both in the theater, but I forget in which order! lol But, without looking, I think Romeo came out first.)

reply

Certainly one of the best films ever.

Shuji Terayama forever.

reply

I just had to rewatch this to make up for the disappointment of Killing Them Softly. They just don't make them like Romeo Is Bleeding anymore and Pitt is certainly no Oldman.

reply

What didn't you like about Killing Them Softly? I thought it was brilliant, personally. I am interested in another ROMEO IS BLEEDING fan's take on it, though!!

none of the characters in Killing Them Softly are very likeable....
