Just saw it again for the first time in over a decade and loved it. I can not believe how great this movie was. The ending was the part that always stuck with me. Very depressing but darkly humorous.
Somehow this is the reason why I really like this movie. For me the depression of this film is strongly connected to fact that viewers have immediate feeling or understanding this is not going to end happily. I have to compare this to "Carlito's Way" which arises exactly the same feeling every time I see it. Different movies of course, but...
@ USCSS Ulysees Nostromo ... there's one big difference, Carlito's Way is a far better film and i get more 'feeling' from it to.
-Carlito's Way = 9/10 -Romeo is Bleeding = 6/10 (best part of this film for me was 'seeing' Lena Olin :), as she's attractive (i first seen her in 'The Ninth Gate' (1999) (8/10, seen it many times and i dont get tired of it. also, it's one of my favorite Johnny Depp films.) and she immediately grabbed my attention and i still think she's most attractive in that film more than Romeo is Bleeding.... as far as Oldman, i think he was much better in Leon (1994) (10/10, one of my favorite films ever) as his character was just more interesting.)
Romeo is Bleeding is almost perfect for me I gave 9/10 for it (Ninth Gate is not better than 5/10 IMO) Oldman gave a superb performance. Actually I don't really see why it's compared to Stansfield (I love that, too)
Well, I wouldn't say "perfect". It really doesn't explain in any realistic way how he, a condemned man, shot her - a free lady who turned evidence against him - and yet was awarded a medal and given a new identity instead of going to prison.
