Aha, right rope!

Can somebody please explain the joke here? Its always bothered me. I don't get it and don't understand if he is referencing anything etc.

Don't know if it's a reference to something as well, but at least, this time, the rope will enable him to play domino with the soldiers, and not cause a chandelier to fall down on him.

A great scene by the way, he cuts off the rope, waits for the inevitable, and wham, he goes down, with the accompanying chorus of assembled soldiers laughing at him.

Ha, I like your status! One of the funniest lines in the movie.

if it was a reference to something i sure missed it,, i believe he is just commenting on the situation cuz in the scene before he cuts the wrong rope and the chandelier falls on him,, so this time he's like ahh right rope, so when he cut's it he will get the desired effect.
are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

Earlier, he cut a rope thinking it would drop a chandalier on the guards he was fighting. He cut the wrong one so a different chandalier fell on him. This time he wanted to make sure he had the right rope to knock the guards down like dominoes.

If I remember correctly, the second rope is marked with a knot. So he knows it's the right one, before he even tries.
