I first saw Assassin when I was sixteen and I only just watched it again last night. Maybe I’m still watching it through an adolescent teenager’s eyes, but I really enjoyed it!
Granted, I haven’t watched Nikita; maybe if I saw that I’d understand why people don’t like it that much.

Just watched this movie, really enjoyed it. I'm wondering about the rating too. It's kind of a rip-off of nikita but still, it's fun to watch anyhow.

It's not a rip-off by the way. Luc Besson is credited for writing the story.
It was worth watching, but was definitely not as great as La Femme Nikita. Never watched the series though....wasn't really interested. thought it would downplay Nikita.

Not having seen 'Nikita' I can't compare the films. I do however think that 'Point Of No Return' is worth watching. It does drag a little in parts and might have been improved with some slight cutting. Overall it's quite a good film well acted by a an excellent cast and one I would probably buy on DVD.
shareOverall, I enjoyed the movie but please see "La Femme Nikita", it is a superior film. Problem with this movie is, the best parts were from the original and it's when it diverts that it gets rediculous.
And don't get me started on Harvey Keitel, I know the character was written a tad differently, and as much as I like Keitel, he does not hold a candle to Jean Reno.

I gave this movie 4. As you say, it was shyte (was wondering why you put the 'y' in the word instead of 'i', until I posted ;) )
Long Kiss Goodnight was slightly different - it almost didn't take itself so seriously, so the over-the-top action and ridiculous scenarios were, for me, not so offensive. And I liked the mix between the two protagonists.
