Am i supposed to like her?

I dont know if anyone else here thought this but i hated Maggie. OKay she is a junkie, boohoo, but she breaks into a store, kills a cop for no reason, stabs another cop through the hand, beats up several balifs(court cops) beats up and tries to kill that guy whos name i cant remember(uncle bob?) and i am supposed to feel for her?NO chance

That's why I didn't like the American version. At least in "Nikita," her behavior has some level of humanity to it. She's a junkie, sure...but she's also a child. I always felt that in the original, there was more a sense that she was just an unfortunate, someone to feel sorry for, someone who probably never had a chance. She seemed more mouse-like, skiddish, too young, naive, and too whacked out to know any better. In "Point of No Return," she just seemed on a bender to be pissed off at the world. I felt in the American version she was just asking for it. Maybe it just had to do with the performance, but it's one of the many reasons I prefer "Nikita" to "Point of No Return."

sfwf2, who ever said you're supposed to like her, you trailer trash piece crap?

reply

you are supposed to like the main character in any movie, thats why we watch them and want them to suceed. And I dont think alot of people in trailers have computers and spend their time on IMDB, they are too busy trying to surive you halfwit

When I watch a movie I only have one request. To either A> Relate on some level with the main character on some level whether or not i agree with their actions or B> at least be entertained by the situation. If neither is accomplished i must ask myself why am I spedning my money and hours of my life watching this? I take nothing away from it nor am i entertained soo...I have no reason to watch this. In the situation we are giving neither is accomplished. The main character is a drug addict so she has my sympathy but she then kills a cop for no reason, then stabs a man in the hand for no real reason. Yet later she cant kill because.....why?She just decides she cant? Shes already killed once and tried several other times so the emotional breakdown does lend some pitty but not in a realistc way. She either was poorly written or was supposed to be a evil type character for which I would rather see them get whats coming to them( objective B) so i can be entertained instead of having her get away with everything. I dont like her at all and I find it stupid that we are supposed to like her for no reason. We are just told as viewers to like her so no matter what she does we are supposed to like her.

Oh, and questioning my I.Q. is rather childish so if your going to insult me atleast do it orginally and with some sort of intelligence instead of insulting mine.

I know it seems ironic for me to complain about something for wasting my time and then waste more time talking about it but the whole reason im on this particluar board is cause its bugging me. I know i didnt like her but then i wasnt sure if it was me or it was everyone, and if it was everyone why was it made, and if it was just me, why do i hate her. Its like playing the last level in a game that stopped being fun while ago but you are sooo close you cant just quit, you have to finish, know what i mean?

Relating to someone is usually considered a positive thing, even if you don't really like the person. My criterion is that I have to care what happens to at least one of the principle characters. Recently, I have seen at least two movies that had good stories and good acting, but I simply didn't care what happened to either character (because neither seemed to have any redeeming qualities). I just could not get interested in the movie, far less enjoy it.

I didn't like her, AT ALL.

yeah sfwf2, i've come across some movies where the main character is not likeable, and i just couldn't get hooked on it, but according to outoftheflames here, this should appeal to female serial killers then. i bet that's a smash to the box office.

in the town there was a heavy storm,
trees blowing, raining, with no cars on the road,
i was staying at home,
when suddenly uncle elmer broke down the door,
sniffing in my fridge, eating the house out,
tracked out food that i didn't know was around,
but it's not for me now,
storm and rain,
in the dark day,
i'm starving while this guy is eating away,
only the refridgerator lamp shining today,
i got nothing to eat,
uncle elmer has cleared the fridge,
somebody bring me food, somebody stop this storm,
uncle elmer won't share, and i'm starving in my own home.

they sold it as though you were supposed to like her and after all of her violent freak-outs, verbal explosions, sullen weepy moments... how could you resist her? Plus she had a slammin' early 90s hair-do to boot. I have to say Victor the Cleaner was my personal favorite.

After her initial cruelty and the reformation, I found I liked her because I think she had a very troubled child hood and was never given a break. I mean just from her wildness you got the impression she'd been living on the streets for a long time, doing God knows what ya know. She just needed a firm hand to guide her.

I missed 45 minutes of this film but, I never got the impression, other than

how resistant Maggie was towards J.P., that she had a troubled childhood.

Maybe because how innocent her face was. IDK. That's why it's very important to

view a film from start to finish.

I felt sorry for JP. Here's a regular guy, trying to quietly live his life and this morally empty person just breezes in and out with no explanation. Plus Maggie has this creepy Uncle Bob hanging around too. What did he do to deserve that?

So yeah, I didn't like Maggie either. My favorite character was Anne Bancroft's Amanda. I feel like she was a Maggie before becoming an instructor when she got older.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Didn't like Maggie at all.
She remorselessly kills a cop & attacks several others. She deceives her boyfriend in every way too.
She never EVER shows any remorse for what she did. Her line to JP in the hotel room reveals that.
Her character was awful.

Not to mention all those innocent people she basically 'let' get killed in the kitchen of that restaurant!
