Whose bright idea was it to cast Janet for that role? Janet is the bomb and all, but only at singing and dancing. She can't act. Who ever did that was wrong, just like casting Cuba Gooding Jr. to play that role in Boyz in the Hood was wrong. Janet's voice was too soft and she was trying her hardest to sound ghetto which she is not, and the same with Cuba.
shareWhile I agree with you that Janet was not appropriate for this role, I do not in the case of Cuba's role in Boyz N the Hood. He wasn't trying to act ghetto, he was playing a character who was trying to act ghetto to fit in, when he was clearly different from his friends. That was one of the major points of the movie in my opinion.

I'm not a big fan of hers,& always thought the opposite,her acting was better than her singing. but there are plenty of girls in the hood like her. being"bougie" trying anyway...
