What was the 'poetry/Lucky's cousin' thing about??

When they are all at the fair, Lucky asks Justice what she writes in her notebook.
Justice replies "Oh that's my poetry." Lucky replies: "You trying to say my cousin's *beep* aint poetry?"
How is Justice stating that she's writing poetry in the notebook any insult to his cousin at all? I didn't get that.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

reply

He's a rapper?

Hey tell me, is it stalking if I follow her like all the way home without her knowing?

reply

OK, but what did Justice's poems have to do with his cousin? He asks her what she writes in her book, she replies its her poetry.
Lucky replies "What, you're saying my cousin's *beep* aint poetry?"

How is Janet saying that?! She was merely answering his question; she never mentioned his cousin at all?

reply

Oh, because they were listening to his cousin's tape and she didn't like it. At least I think I remember it happening that way.

when tupac was listening to his cousin's tape, justice said , "This is dope who is this?"

That didn't sound like she didn't like it.

Lol, ok. Well, haven't seen it in a while. Not all the way through anyway. I guess I just assumed I'd missed a scene or line. Funny how our minds fill in the blanks. Interesting, perhaps there was a deleted scene but you would think they'd catch it . If I figure it out I'll be back, haha.

Late response, but....when Justice told Lucky she wrote poetry, he automatically became defensive because, in his opinion, his cousin's rap lyric were poetry, though they lacked the refinement and traditional prose that Justice's poetry or any "traditional" spoken word possesses. It was implied, but I think they left out a line or two of dialogue since he had never actually listened to her poems yet and she hadnt heard his cousin's music yet. He was prematurely making incorrect assumptions about her which coincides with the theme their budding relationship....Breaking the assumptions and identifying with one another.

Thanks for the reply. I do think a line or two of dialogue was indeed left out there, as it still was a bit confusing.
