Too much culture

I understand the need to showcase life as an african american but this movie tried too hard.

1. Family Reunion
2. Carnival/Event (honestly I personally have not had an all Black expo like that in my town) so it was nice to see on film but a bit too much
3. Crime/Fights (losing the BF at beginning & later the cousin near end)

I agree, the carnival and the reunion was a bit too much, you'd be hard pressed to find a whole lot of black people along the central coast. I might be willing to believe the carnival could have been held in San Luis Obispo or Monterey (they're both college towns, so obviously they tend to have "cultured events" like the carnival).
