deepthroat *spoiler warning*

at the very end, denzel's being asked about "darby shaw" on the tv show, the anchor asked him if she is like deepthroat. the anchor mentioned that she could be a fictitious person used to tie up loose ends. of course i can see how thinking that can help her personal security. but i think that it's very easy to look up "darby shaw" using public records and see that she's a real person and that she's a law student, and her relationship with sam sheperd's character, etc.

I remember thinking the same thing the first time I watched the movie.

Rupert was dead by the end of the story, so no, he had NO idea where Darby was.

I think you mean Grantham?

reply

Darby Shaw's name was on the story as writing it with Grant Grantham not saying she was a law student or where she lived. There are many people with the same name so there would be no use of public records.

And keep in mind the was in the very very early days of the internet so you would have to make public records requests and the info was not nearly as easy to come by back then.

I couldn't help thinking during this movie; if guys like that would be after you you'd be dead in a day. She'd never make it. Somehow the movie doesn't really convince me at all on this point.

The only explanation would have been if they did'nt want her to die, but the first carbomb shows they didnt care about that; they just wanted her out of the way...

Huddie

ps: it spoiled the movie for me allright; I think it's all rather silly and boring. Erin Brockovitch is better, if you absolutely have to see Julia Roberts...

What would be the point of killing her though?

The brief had gone public.

The brief had gone public."

The brief had only gone "public" as far as the FBI and from there to the corrupt President's staff. It would likely have been ignored and died on the vine if the Julia Roberts and Sam Shepard characters had both been disposed of successfully. The president had pressured the FBI director to back off checking into the brief.
