She's not remotely androgynous
sharePart of Orlando’s character, and the overall point of the movie, is her sexually androgynous body and mindset. She’s an awkward, timid, cautious little thing who’s both believable as a male and female. Tilda played both male and female Orlando perfectly. I’m sure Johansson would do well in the acting department, she’s too damn hot! Orlando transforming from sheepish nobleman into overtly sexy and curvy Scartlett would entire miss the point of the movie. You’d have to completely rewrite most of the script for that to work.
shareShe does sort of have a manly voice, but she'd be absolutely awful.
shareAgreed. Except for her voice,, Johanssen is completely feminine, physically and in behavior. Plus, she only photographs well when the hair and makeup departments go to town and glam the hell out of her.
There doesn't need to be another "Orlando", as it's a bit of piffle whose only justification was as a star vehicle for Swinton. Without Swinton, it's a waste of film.
It shouldn't ever be remade, but only someone like Jodie Comer could pull it off.
