Excellent cinematography
One of the most notable things about this Van Damme movie is the cinematography. From the opening scene, with that windy desert road perfectly framing the credits, to the many scenes with shafts of light cutting diagonally across the screen, adding artistic haze -- it's just not what one would expect from either a martial arts or a Van Damme flick. Somebody took a lot of care to make a beautiful looking movie. Besides that, I did really enjoy it -- it's one of the few that has a credible script.
