I finally watched this movie, even though I loved stop animation and things Berton has done such as Beetle juice I never had seen this movie, the idea of it didn't appeal to me.

I finally sat down and watched and I must say it was exactly what I excepted and I don't see what all the fuss is about. Oh well I guess I am just one of the few who didn't like it. It was nice to see a Tim Burton movie without Johnny Dept though.

I just watched it for the very first time. Visually, I thought it was fantastic. I loved all the character and set designs, and the stop-motion, but storywise I thought it fizzled out during the third act. I agree with Gene Siskel's review: when it was over, I kind of thought "what was the point of this?"

Siskel actual asked "what's the point of this?" That's one of those nonsense objections that seem to come from people who just aren't really into film. I mean, what's the "point" of any movie? Aside from those with a specific, defined agenda to push, most films (and especially most great films) are about the experience they provide.

I've never in my life finished a movie and literally thought "Well, the point of that was (insert point here)." If a movie can be boiled down to a one-sentence moral, it probably wasn't very memorable.

I will admit to kinda sorta feeling that way after Cosmopolis, which seemed to end mid-scene. I won't say it was "pointless," just that it seemed incomplete.

Not Burton. Selick. And people will harp on about it being Burtons project, which to be fair it was, but now we have Coraline to compare it to, it is distinctly Selick.

Also, it's a great film.

You're not alone. I have never liked the movie, and have often wondered what all the fuss was about. My two year old loves it, and watches it every day .... This must be a form of parental torture!

To each their own. I'm sure not everyone else thinks The Wizard of Oz and Halloween and the best movies ever =D

My mom and dad never liked it that much. They let me buy it on VHS after it was released after seeing it in the theater months earlier. But my mom and dad were never as big into horror as I was either. My mom did watch a few of the Nightmare movies with me but my dad prefers only black and white horror movies and not ones made after the black and white era ended. He grew up in the 60s but had strict parents who wouldn't even allow a TV in their house. I think that has something to do with it.

They later got a black and white TV and if I went to their house as a kid in the 90s I'd have to watch my favorite shows on that black and white TV. All they ever wanted to watch on TV was the news. My mom's parents had a color TV but mainly watched stuff like the Andy Griffith Show, the Beverley Hillbillies, sports, and the news. They couldn't tolerate my favorite movies and would leave the room when I watched them cause they couldn't stand hearing any cusswords. Just a difference between older and younger generations I guess. My Grandpa on my dad's side once went on to my Dad about how he hated taking a cousin of mine to see Men in Black cause he thought it was a boring movie and my immediate reactions was, "What? That movie's great!" I did love my grandparents and they did treat me fine but our tastes were vastly different.

Tim Burton is overrated and sucks. His only two good movies were Batman and Sweeney Todd.
