Why do people say this is a Tim Burton Film?

I'm sick of hearing so many people refer to this as Tim Burton's film. Just because he produced it and wrote the story does it really make it "his" film? Shouldn't the credit go to Selick?

I have an even better question for you..."Who cares?". Its a fantastic movie whether it be Burton's or Selick's. And I believe the actual name of the story is entitled "Tim Burton's 'The Nightmare Before Christmas"...hense the title of said movie.

reply

Because a really talented director kinda got short handed. All of his other films have been marketed as "from the makers of NBC"... Which is true, but dishonest, since most people take that as Tim burton.

It is both of theirs.

No one in their right mind would ride on a buggy driven by Klaus Kinski.

It's not just Burton or Selick's film. But everyone who worked on it, it's their film as well. People need to stop thinking of only writers, actors, directors, producers etc...You gotta think of all the other people behind the scenes that make a movie possible. Costume designers, camera operators, people who sit their for days and days making these clay figures for the stop motion. Without all these other people, the movie would not be possible. Everybody who worked on it, it's all theirs.

The big reason Burton's name was used for the promotion, was because he is a big time filmmaker, with at the time, 5 very successful films under his belt (Pee-Wee's, Beetlejuice, Batman, Scissorhands and Returns). You put his name on the poster, people will flock to see it, and which case, will earn more money. Know what I'm trying to say? They call Hollywood a business for a reason. The bigger the name, the more money they potentially make.

Yes and no. Yes, because they do play a big part in making a movie

But no, because at the end of the day, they don't have final say in anything. If the director didn't like a particular scene, they have to do it again. If the costume isn't right, they have to fix it. If the backdrop is the wrong color, they have to repaint it.

Let's be bad guys.

Because Burton came up with the story and produced the movie. Selick was basically a director for hire.

Also, Burton is a household name. When you watch one of his movies, you get a general idea of what you're gonna get. It's also a bit like watching a Stephen King movie.

even without seeing the credits, it is immediately identifiable as something from tim burton. it has a typical burton style. regardless of who worked on it, they obviously took inspiration from burton, made it to invoke him.

So by your logic the story A Christmas Carol belongs to Richard Donner because he directed Scrooged? Or perhaps while Richard Donner directed an adaptation, the story is still Charles Dickens's?

reply

No wonder I am finding it boring.

reply

They both are responsible for it
