The music...

Using Hall of the Mountain King while Nettie slapped the citations on Buster's house was ingenious! It fit perfectly the way it was choreographed. Using Ave Maria when Nettie and Wilma were going at it? I don't know, that was a bit weird.

I wish I had this soundtrack (Needful Things) :-(
I think it is one of the best soundtracks ever made. I wonder where I could buy it because it seems that it`s sold out.

I would just like to start out by saying that the use of music in movies has always been an obsession of mine... if I were ever to aspire to become a movie director, the music would be one possibly my foremost concern.

That said, I think the use of Ave Maria in the scene where Nettie and Wilma kill each other is utter brilliance. I have always been a huge fan of a visual and sound that seem completely contradictory... as in, a really very jubilant song that's just supposed to make people happy being played to a scene where two people kill each other. It drives the scene home, so to say.

Another great example of this is in the wonderful remake of Willard, with Crispin Glover. There's a scene where the rats chase (and ultimately kill) a cat to Michael Jackson's "Ben".

So a bit weird? Yes, maybe. But it gave you a feeling of uneasiness, did it not? If so, they did their job well, because that was the point. They drove the scene home. ;)

(If you want to see utter perfection where a musical piece drives a scene home, watch Eyes Wide Shut. There's a scene played to Ligeti's Musica Ricercata (II) that I think is the definitive example of soundtrack genious.)
