A Long Twilight Zone Episode
This plot always seemed like it could've been told in 30-60 minutes. The ending was just not fulfilling enough for the story to have been dragged out for that long.
It reminded of that Twilight Zone episode where the aliens cause the townsfolk to destroy themselves. That was actually very well done.
The people who complain about everything are no worse than the sheep who agree with everything.
