Video quality is awful as hell
All the time I looked at this movie, I wondered it actually was made for TV, because the picture quality is some of the worst I've ever seen!

shareI have the German Blu-ray release of this film (In einer kleinen Stadt). It was released last year by EuroVideo and it has restored image quality with English-language DTS-HD Master Audio track.
I made a small screenshot comparison of it with the Scandinavian DVD which has an appalling image quality. The difference can easily be noted: http://www.dvdplaza.fi/forum/threads/90754/.

I just saw it on comcast on demand and some scenes look like they were shot w a VHS camera. The part where the kid has a gun to his head looked awful.
shareMy copy looked great.. but the cinematography, and especially the lighting, was awful at times.
shareWatching it on UK TV now - they have the 'tapey' looking version, though it's in widescreen. I saw it in 4:3 on TV a good while ago. Still, the chroma key on the buildings and the sky behind them looked very obvious at a couple of points. I'm a fan of this film, so will look out for the remastered version. And Max von Sydow, what a presence. And to think, he's played Jesus and the devil, plus he's still going strong and in some space sequel people keep talking about.
shareThe lighting was was not very good and it did have a videotape kind of quality to it.
It's that man again!!
