Spoof movies have existed for a lot longer than Loaded Weapon or the Scary Movie series. I don't know where they started, but you should check out pretty much anything by Mel Brooks, espcially Spaceballs (spoofs Star Wars, and sci-fi).

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as the fly by.

So basically they're called spoof movies?

Well I am agreeing with you. But I was just confirming that movies like this scary movie date movie etc. are called "spoof movies?"

Ahhh, I didn't understand why you told me "shut doesn't go up. It goes closed." I realize now that is your signature line.

I call them spoof movies, and I've heard others call them that, but I don't actually know if that is their official designation or not. I also call them 'stupid comedies' but I'm pretty sure that's not what they are supposed to be called.

Movies that spoof other movies first starting appearing in the 1970's with Mel Brooks. The more "silly" (i.e. background jokes, non sequiturs, etc.) started a few years later with ZAZ movies like Airplane!

However, Mad Magazine has been doing movie spoofs in comic form since at least the mid-50's... so whatever you want to consider the start of spoofs can vary.

This doesn't really matter, but I thought someone might be interested.
