I'll disagree slightly, Skroob. Friedberg and Selzer pick the right scenes...but they don't have a g*d damn clue as to how to spoof anything! They eventually got nicknamed "reference" movies, as opposed to spoof, because all they would do is basically re-make the scene they were lampooning. Pains me to see guys like this with huge oppurtunity to make movies somehow brainwash studio execs into thinking they're good. Tom Cruise on Oprah's couch...and all they can do is show him doing backflips?? Shallow Hal, all they have is a girl in a fatsuit dancing in slow-motion?? Signs, and all they have is people getting hit with baseball bats?
This decade has produced Spiderman, Lord of the Rings, more Batmans, Pirates, Iron Man, Bourne Identity, No Country for Old Men, Kill Bill, Brokeback Mountain. PLENTY of material to work from (only thing I chuckled at was the Bback Mtn. bit).
It seems that "funny" to them is kids getting hit by cars and as many hits to the nutsack as they can cram in.
