Back in '93 I was on vacation in Tuscany when this film came out. The critic in the International Herald Tribune called it "thin-lipped".

The "lip level" seemed just fine to me. Anyone have any idea where that critique was coming from?

It certainly wasn't referring to Kate Beckinsale's very fat upper lip. It was so distracting in the scene with Claudio at the end.
