Proof that Shakespeare needs to be dramatized and not read in a book

Branagh's version brings out the sarcasm in some of the dialogue - particularly in Benedick's and Beatrice's lines. I don't think I would have caught the nuances without being able to see it being performed.

The film is excellent.

I can't imagine how Beckinsale's character (and her family) could totally forgive her suitor/fiance, especially after he treated her.

Keaton is very funny.

Reeves is appropriately evil.

I've read Shakespeare a few times, and you have to go over the text a few times to get the gist of the scenes.

But, yes, you are right, it needs to be performed, and not read.

reply

Well it is a play.

Can't stop the signal.

Of course, of course. Mr Shakespeare didn't make his plays for people to write school essays about. They are entertainment, as much now as when they were first performed.
