Frank & his partner

Mrs Doubtfire is an adorable movie, but how do we feel about the characterization of the two make-up artists. Is it o-k to make gay characters such obvious exaggerations, so obviously gay? I would expect some outcry if this were made today, or maybe this is accurate and affectionate.

I don’t think the scene’s intent is to bash people who are gay, so I’d say it’s fine. Even if it is poking fun of gay people, it’s in fun and is based on some truth.

I think some gay people would think it was funny if released today, and some would take offense.

I don't remember his partner but Frank was portrayed by Harvey Fierstein who was basically playing the character as he is in real life so I'd say that's acceptable.

I think the only thing that would be a problem today would be when Robin Williams refers to him as "Uncle Frank and Aunt Jack."

How funny, I heard that earlier. I wasn't sure what to make of it. For one, I didn't think the kids would be that close with those guys, and "Aunt Jack" sounded like going for a laugh because the guy is gay. I don't have a problem with it, but I do wonder. I'll bet Robin had a lot of gay references in his stand-up.
