Could u give me some details about the message you want to know?
As I know, most major cities in China maintain their original names as they were since 1949 when PRC established. Some cities changed their names cause for political reasons, such as Beijing, which was called as “Peking”, but it just changed another Chinese character “Jing” instead of “Ping” while it looks changed more in spelling in English. Back to ancient times (for example, Qing Dynasty or before), of course, a lot of many China cities’ names are quite different from nowadays. Take Nanjing as an example, Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province on the east coastline of China Mainland, but it has many different names during various periods. Nanjing was used to be called as Jinling, Tianjing (not Tianjin located in north China today) and so on. What’s more do u want to know? Welcome connect with me:)
