This movie belongs in the top 250

I have this movie on DVD and I watch it all the time. It's in my top 50. The stories are beautiful and tragic. The story about the Mother having to leave her twins on a road in war torn China still makes me sob.

I don't understand how anyone can not like this movie. It's not anti-Asian male and I think you're missing the point of the movie.

It's exposes the difficult situations between Mother's and Daughter's, that are first generation and second, Husband's and Wives from different cultures, and the jealousy that happens in a lot of Asian families.

I think every Female can relate to the Mother and Daughter situations in this film.

The flashbacks of their past tragedies explain their emotional state, their psyche, stubbornness, and the shared dream they all have for their Daughters. The line from the story of the feather "She had a Daughter who swallowed more Coca Cola than sorrow" explains it all.

China was a very cruel place for women.

There were some stereotypical aspects of the movie even though their is some truth to them. The piano and violin lessons but I have many Asian friends and there is some truth to this.

Cinematography was amazing.

Great film. Very moving. I love every minute of it.

Amazingly enough, I just caught this movie on cable recently. I've always wanted to watch it but I could never find a DVD. I could fully relate to the characters- not all the time, but I've had many of the same conversations they had in the movie with my own family. It's not true that the younger generation Chinese can't relate to it. I am a 17-year-old half chinese myself- the movie touched me in so many ways. It's definitely one of the best movies ever made. Kudos to Amy Tan for writing such a wonderful book. I cried like a baby.

Are you kidding?!? Have you seen the *beep* in the top 250? I'm glad this movie is not in the top 250, because that would mean it is liked by the cretins that put all that *beep* in the top 250. And I sure wouldn't want to think that I share something with them. The top 250 is nothing but a popularity contest, with a few great movies thrown in because they have always been considered great and so people vote accordingly. If you don't think I'm right, consider that Fight Club and Citizen Kane are rated equally. Or consider that Children of Heaven is not on the list. I could go on forever, but I think the point is clear. The top 250 is a joke, and I wish imdb would delete it. Long live the Joy Luck Club off of the list.

I have a great deal of respect for this movie, and what it was trying relay. You don't have to be Asian to relate to the women, or their daughters. It can very difficult being a woman. The choices that we face are not easy, and are not getting any easier. This film deals with things that all women face at some time, or another. It's a film that I highly recommend to this day. I still don't understand how the Oscar's ignored it. Great film.
