Many of the actresses in the film did way better than Emma Thompson in "In the Name of the Father" or Winona Ryder in "Age of Innocence".

Which two actresses deserved nominations the most in your all's opinions?

Tsai Chin, who played Waverly's mother. I always love seeing her in films.

I agree for Tsai Chin. The actress who played Waverley was very good too.

I agree also. They were my favorite mother and daughter in the film; incredibly touching performances.

France Nuyen, Yi Ding and Feihong Yu.

The woman who played Second Wife was stunning; in just a few seconds on screen and a couple of lines, you knew all about her.

Gale Sondergaard comes very strongly to mind.

I like the idea of Frances Nuyen or Tsai Chin as oscar nominated thespians, and actually one of these two could have easily filled Holly Hunter's spot in this category (the one for THE FIRM, considering she was a sure winner in the leading category for THE PIANO). I'm also a great fan of Vivian Wu's appearance as Ah Mei's mum, but I could agree that her role is too small for awards traction
