June was SO annoying when she was young

I love this movie but geezus; June complains all the time about not being a success at anything and that Waverly is always showing her up yet when she refused to practice the piano again because she messed up at the recital I think it showed a real propensity to disregard any potential she may have just cause she's too embarrassed.

I do think however that this is the the antithesis of Amy Tan's view of Chinese-American culture. That you don't have to follow all things that are Chinese tradition in order to be Chinese. As we follow the generation we see that each woman broke off from the beliefs of their own parents. It's quite inspirational.
