no 'Bing'!

This was a great movie. I loved it, and I understand why several of the vignettes from the novel were excluded (the movie would have been five hours long), but one of the most poignant stories in the book was where Rose's mother loses her faith after the tragedy at the beach. I was reading the novel while waiting in a jury pool, and when I read the part where the mom throws her valuable jewel into the sea, I began to sob. I was so embarrassed.

This could have been a great scene in the movie, and it would also have given Lisa Lu the opportunity to have a great scene.

I wonder what scenes other fans would have liked to see included.
