and as for the scene June's mother's story just brings me to tears every time as a mother of 2 girls that gets me

When the mother drowns her baby. That poor baby! That mom was despicable, Chinese-woman-in-peril or not. You want to go psycho, then kill your sadistic husband NOT your baby!
I didn't feel sorry for her at all. She saw how childish & goofy her husband was before she married him, she says he 'chases his crotch'... well so did she.

And the scene between June and her mother in the kitchen when she gives her the necklace.
And the very end, when she finally meets her sisters.
But there are many other scenes in between that also make me puddle up.
Those babies!The reunion, and everything just so melancholy. It reminds me of the end of The Color Purple.
shareYes! I totally agree - this reminds me of the end of The Color Purple too. Celie at last being reunited with her children makes me dissolve in tears just as much as June meeting her sisters in China. I cried when I read the ending in the novel too.
