what line or scene makes you cry?

when Waverly's mom tells her "now you make me happy" when they are in the beauty parlor
and next when June's mother tells her "its not wrong to hope" and "you have best quality heart","you have style no one can teach must be born this way"
and as for the scene June's mother's story just brings me to tears every time as a mother of 2 girls that gets me
what about you?

When the mother leaves her twins in the park.

When the mother drowns her baby. That poor baby! That mom was despicable, Chinese-woman-in-peril or not. You want to go psycho, then kill your sadistic husband NOT your baby!
I didn't feel sorry for her at all. She saw how childish & goofy her husband was before she married him, she says he 'chases his crotch'... well so did she.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I totally agree. I love this movie, but the story of Ying Ying and Lena was very poorly done and when Ying Ying drowns her baby I lost any sympathy for her. They changed a lot from the book, but this was one thing they shouldn't have changed.

This was the only "quibble" in an otherwise great movie, but its a big quibble.

Pretty much the whole movie!

But two scenes especially - when Ying Ying is telling Lena to leave the house, so she can be "found" and "It is you who will be cherished."

And the scene between June and her mother in the kitchen when she gives her the necklace.

And the very end, when she finally meets her sisters.

But there are many other scenes in between that also make me puddle up.

Those babies! The reunion, and everything just so melancholy. It reminds me of the end of The Color Purple.

Yes! I totally agree - this reminds me of the end of The Color Purple too. Celie at last being reunited with her children makes me dissolve in tears just as much as June meeting her sisters in China. I cried when I read the ending in the novel too.

Yeah, that whole scene pretty much destroys me...the "best quality heart," the "I see you." The "it hurt me Mommy." All that stuff.

I was reading the quotes again a little while ago, and started tearing up!

Yes, definitely this.

And of course the sisters meeting at the end.
