The park scene....the 2 twins...

Spoilers--------------------------!!!

The park scene is the most lame scene in this film that I love so much.

It is 6 months after your mother had died. All your mother's life she was tormented because when she thought she was about to die from dysentery she left her twin daughters by a tree hoping that somebody of means would take them. She could not stay with them because her dead body would mean bad luck.

So move ahead to the park scene where June learns from her aunties that these twins not only survived but are alive and well in China today. The 2 twins presumed to be dead!

The news of having 2 sisters that you thought were long gone would break anybody down but add to that the recent death of her mother who would not live to know that and June's normal reaction would be to curl up in a fetal position and weep uncontrollable. Instead we get just a touch of emotion.

Remember her mother was tormented by the plight of those babies it effected every aspect of her life!

It's just news that is far more powerful than the reaction we see.

The scene is inadequate.

I agree. But, I still li ed the movie.

What I din't understand is all the hate fir this movie on these threads. My God....it's a beautiful, very poignant, moving, historical saga that offers a rich story with several strong, finely written characters.

Ming Na's acting was actually pretty bad throughout the movie. She didn't emote at all.

Poorly Lived and Poorly Died, Poorly Buried and No One Cried

My brother and I always make fun of Ming Na's delivery of "What do you mean, they're alive?!" after Auntie Lindo tells her they're alive.
